So I updated the graphic and changed some positions that I thought were a bit off. I’m trying to be as objective as possible, but there are some placements that I feel are borderline.

Not a bad effort. I disagree with the tudor place, and think the opulent / opulent distinction is very subjective. Not sure I agree with your classification / distinction of Omega, Rolex, Cartier, zenith, JLC and panerai. It almost seems like you’re basing a lot of that solely on price.

I know this is a joke but I’m curious if most people really see Breitling as being on the same “level” as Omega. I don’t know why but I always have a so-so opinion about them, they certainly don’t seem as prestigious or popular as Omega or Rolex.

But I wouldn’t divide it into Presage, Spirit, Alba, Seiko 5 etc etc etc. I had to go with where most of their sales are and how they are sold (in each mall = consumer).

I try to hit the middle where I feel there is a brand. There are many brands that have prestige models and high horology models but if they are more exceptions than their main models, then that doesn’t count (much).

Also, some brands have a prestigious history and that doesn’t count for much here compared to what they’re making now, how they’re sold and what they’re worth. Bulova is a good example of this.

So why is “quasi-luxury” a thing? It means “luxurious appearance”. It makes sense when you have to put another brand in relation to it.

For example – Frederique Constant and Raymond Weil. Very few would say they are on the same level as Tudor but they are more of a consumer watch and not a passion (eg hobbyist) watch. Also, it’s fair to say that Omega is slightly above Tudor (at least where they are in 2021). So “quasi-categories” have a place. Everyone here should be able to “feel” a quasi-luxury brand that aims to look like a luxury watch but is still reasonably priced and doesn’t aspire to be more than that. It’s not a bad thing at all.
